Department Statement

The School of Theology and Christian Ministries at Northwest Nazarene University has a respected tradition of service to the institution, the denomination, the region, and the communities of southwest Idaho. The School consists of the undergraduate Department of Philosophy and Religion (which services the general education program of the University and offers several academic majors: Philosophy, Philosophy/Religion, Christian Ministry, Intercultural Ministries, Youth Ministries, and Biblical Studies) and the graduate Department of Theology and Christian Ministries (which offers fully online Master of Divinity and Master of Arts degrees in Spiritual Formation; Youth, Children, and Family Ministries; Pastoral Ministry; and Missional Leadership). The School presently consists of ten full-time faculty members who are actively engaged in both academic research and church ministry.

Description of Position

The School of Theology and Christian Ministries of Northwest Nazarene University is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty member (Professor of Religion and Philosophy, rank open) to begin in the Fall of 2018. This position will include courses in two of the following academic disciplines - - philosophy, church history, intercultural studies, and theology- -that reflect the candidate’s expertise and interests. The position will include a variety of courses (general education, major, and online graduate) in both traditional and online modalities that reflect the dimensions of the School’s curricula, along with academic advising and other faculty responsibilities within the University and School. Minimum Qualifications

Applicants are preferred to possess a completed Ph.D. in one of the disciplines stated above (although ABD will be considered), with significant graduate-level work in one of the second disciplines. Strong candidates will have a proven track record in teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, understand teaching ministry as a Christian vocation, and demonstrate active engagement and contribution to theological scholarship through publication and academic service. Candidates need to be ordained ministers in the Church of the Nazarene (or be willing to pursue ordination) and have ministry experience. The University and School require that all candidates approach theology from a Wesleyan theological perspective, be in agreement with the mission and doctrines of the Church of the Nazarene, agree to live within the mission and lifestyle values of NNU, be willing to help advance the mission and vision of the University, and be an active participant in the Church of the Nazarene.

Compensation

The salary will be determined by the educational background and experience of each applicant.
