Description of Position

The School of Theology and Christian Ministries of Northwest Nazarene University is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty member (Professor of Practical Theology, rank open) to begin in the Fall of 2019. This position will include courses in intercultural ministry (at both the undergraduate and graduate levels) along with other areas of practical theology that reflect the candidate’s expertise and interests, and/or courses in the undergraduate general education curriculum.  Courses will include both traditional (i.e., face-to-face) and online modalities that reflect the dimensions of the School’s curricula, along with academic advising and other faculty responsibilities within the University and School.  This faculty member will also serve as a partner in broader University-wide initiatives to recruit and serve a more diverse faculty and student body.  Depending on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, this faculty member could be appointed to a significant campus leadership role in these diversity initiatives.  As a mission-driven institution, NNU believes that efforts to build a more diverse university should reflect our core theological values; the pairing of this faculty appointment in the School of Theology and Christian Ministries with a leadership role in our emerging diversity initiative is a practical affirmation of this belief.

Northwest Nazarene University is sponsored by the Church of the Nazarene and seeks to reflect the cultural and ethnic diversity of the body of Christ in its faculty, staff, administration and students. All those interested are encouraged to apply and will be evaluated equitably. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Strong candidates will also value teaching and mentoring a variety of students and the place of theological scholarship. Candidates need to be ordained ministers or pursing ordination in the Church of the Nazarene.
